Jeffrey A. Brauer joins Ohio State Bar Foundation Board

Columbus OH (Jan. 6, 2017)— The new year brings with it a new board member for the Ohio State Bar Foundation (OSBF) as Jeffrey A. Brauer begins his three-year term. He will join an accomplished group of 20 legal professionals who are committed to promoting public understanding of the rule of law and improvements in the justice system.

Brauer first became interested in the law during his college years. “At the time, my parents hired a lawyer to help my brother get the care he needed as an individual with disabilities. Watching this attorney fight for the rights of my family showed me the profession is about making a difference in people’s lives. That’s when I decided to go to law school.”

Today, Brauer is a partner in the firm of Hahn Loeser in Cleveland where he represents clients in commercial and civil litigation. When asked why he thinks it’s important to give back to the community, he said, “The role of a lawyer isn’t just billing time. It’s volunteering, it’s pro bono work, it’s sharing the privilege of being an attorney with others. Giving back means doing our part with the skill set we have.” At Hahn Loeser, www.hahnlaw.com, Brauer serves as the firm’s Ethic’s Chair and heads the firm’s Pro Bono efforts.

With a strong commitment to others, Brauer chairs the Board of Directors for the Fine Arts Association, Lake County, Ohio’s premiere school of music, theater, art, and dance which serves as a gathering place for individuals to learn, create, enjoy and appreciate the arts. He also founded the Ohio Wills for Heroes program and worked with volunteers from county bar associations around the state to create simple wills for first responders.

Donating his time to the OSBF, he helped Ohio’s Somali immigrant population learn about their rights with educational materials produced in their native language. In addition, he received the OSBF’s Statewide Community Service Award for Attorneys 40 & Under in 2009 and currently serves on the Membership Committee. “I volunteer because the work the OSBF supports is so meaningful to people and organizations around the state.”

In addition to helping his community, Brauer donates his time to bettering his profession. Brauer is an OSBF Life Fellow, a member of the Ohio State Bar Association Council of Delegates, the Chair of the American Bar Association TIPS Business Litigation Committee, a Council Member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association Litigation Committee, a Vice Chair of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association Ethics and Professionalism Committee, and a member of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers.  Brauer also recently was admitted to the Roster of Arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association and serves as an arbitrator and mediator for the Cuyahoga County Courts.

After earning his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University, he received his law degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Law.  Brauer is an Ohio Super Lawyer and is rated AV Preeminent® by Martindale-Hubbel.
