K. Strauss recognized by law foundation for community service

TOLEDO ATTORNEY RECEIVES BAR FOUNDATION HONOR

 

Columbus – (December 1, 2009) Mr. Karl E. Strauss of Toledo won district honors from the Ohio State Bar Foundation as this year’s recipient of the Award for Community Service by Attorneys 40 and Under.  He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association District 4.

The Ohio State Bar Foundation is the charitable arm of the Ohio State Bar Association.  The Foundation advances the philanthropic interest of Ohio Lawyers to recognize excellence, improve the justice system and enhance public understanding of the law. 

Mr. Strauss was nominated for the honor by Ms. Karen S. Hockstad for his commitment to public service.  He is an associate attorney at Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP and his area of practice revolves around health law.  Mr. Strauss is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association as well as the Toledo, Ohio State and American Bar Associations.

Outside of the legal profession Mr. Strauss donates his time to the University of Toledo College of Law’s Student Health Organization and tutors students at Garfield Elementary School in East Toledo. He has also volunteered for the 2009 Arts Commission of Greater Toledo Mix-up, the ABLE/LAWO Organization and the Center for Equal Justice.  It is for these services to the community that Mr. Strauss received the Award for Community Service by Attorneys 40 and Under.

This award is presented to honorees in Ohio State Bar Association Districts across Ohio.  It recognizes attorneys aged 40 or younger who contribute substantial time and effort to a local social service, or a local civic, artistic or cultural organization.  The service must be outside the recipient’s practice of law and must be given without compensation.  Recipients should represent the ideals of the legal profession, be a credit to the profession and enjoy a fine professional reputation.
