Belfrage named OSBF Executive Director

Columbus, Ohio (Dec. 1, 2009) – Alison Belfrage has been named executive director for the Ohio State Bar Foundation (OSBF).  Previously, Belfrage served as the OSBF associate executive director.

In her new role at the helm of the OSBF, which is the charitable arm of the Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA), Belfrage will direct the OSBF’s efforts to fulfill its mission of working to improve public understanding of the law and build a better justice system.  Recently, for example, the OSBF committed significant resources for the Law & Leadership Institute, which was established to sustain a “pipeline” into the legal profession for disadvantaged students from underserved schools and economically disadvantaged areas.

In her previous role as the OSBF associate executive director, she developed and implemented a communications plan, supported Fellows Class projects and managed OSBA partner relationships.  A marketing and communications specialist who has provided practice development support for lawyers as a private consultant, Belfrage also spent several years as director of law practice development for Bricker & Eckler LLP.

Belfrage earned a bachelor’s degree from Wittenberg University in Psychology and a master’s degree in Family Relations and Human Development from The Ohio State University.

“There are only a rare few people who stand out as role models – the kind of people that others aspire to emulate, and Alison Belfrage is such a person,” said Stephen Chappelear, current president of the OSBF.   He added, “She is well respected by our Board and our 800 Fellows, and by our grantees and other colleagues,” and credits her with already having played “a major role in the great successes enjoyed by the OSBF.”

Belfrage resides in Dublin (43017) with her husband Eric and step son Ray (Kate) Belfrage.

The Ohio State Bar Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity that works to advance the law and build a better justice system.  Through its grants and programs, the OSBF educates and performs outreach to the public to make the law fair for all Ohioans.   For more information about the Ohio State Bar Foundation, please visit www.osbf.net.

The Ohio State Bar Association, founded in 1880, is a voluntary association representing approximately 25,000 members of the bench and bar of Ohio as well as nearly 4,000 legal assistants and law students.  Through its activities and the activities of its related organizations, the OSBA serves both its members and the public by promoting the highest standards in the practice of law and the administration of justice.
